Drug & Alcohol Policy
With the ultimate objective of protecting Human Life and the Environment and of assuring the highest standards of Safety at sea, the Company has established a “D&A Policy” with respect to consumption and possession of drugs & alcohol on board the vessels. This Policy and the implementation details that are described below guaranty that
- Companies fleet vessels using, distribution and consumption of alcohol and drugs are strictly forbidden.
- Posters living the effects of drug use and alcohol abuse are hung up at various point within the ship’s accommodation and engine control room.
- Posters containing the company’s policy in respect of drug and alcohol use and abuse are hung up at various points within the ship’s accommodation and engine control room.
- Drugs should be kept under the seal, drugs should not be used unless necessary for urgent treatment of the patient with the Master permission and prohibit the misuse of legitimate drugs.
- All seafarers must be able to respond at any time in an emergency situation using their best capabilities and unobstructed judgment.
The Master is responsible for the implementation of the drug & alcohol policy onboard his ship. The company shall provide him with the equipment and the necessary guidance to administer alcohol tests for all employees, officers and ratings, as well as all the necessary support to implement the disciplinary action.
These regulating policies apply to all Company personnel during their employment period whether onboard or ashore.
Carry out of Alcohol Policy
”Zero Tolerance” means that the Consumption, Distribution or Sale of Alcohol & Substances are strictly prohibited except the persons who described as following will be controlled in any case of suspicion.
Crew who returned from shore/On Signer crew – Pilots – Third Parties persons
Above mentioned persons should be controlled according to OCIMF Guideliness for The Control Drugs and Alcohol Onboard Ship booklet as a reference.The above-defined seafarer who is found to have consumed alcohol within the limits of OCIMF's alcohol and drug control recommendations will not be given a job for at least 4 hours and will be rested on the ship. The pilot and third parties may be disqualified from their duties by the Captain.
For the control of alcohol consumption in acceptable limit is considered that as follows;
1 unit = 1 can of beer = 20 mg/100 ml BAC
Attention: He will be dismissed without compensation and his name and rank must be immediately reported to the DPA and Crew Manager ashore, for the person used alcohol.
Officers and crew when embarking must declare to the master any kind of prescribed pharmaceutical drug that they are using and/or are carrying with them.
Company shall perform the following drug tests:
- Pre joining testing
- Unannounced alcohol tests by a qualified external contractor following chain procedures, at least once (1) per year.
The Company shall perform the following alcohol tests:
Pre-Joining:
Pre-joining is performed by the Company or by its Crewing Offices depending on the seafarer’s location.
On Board Random testing: (Records Form No: 1103)
On Board Random testing is performed randomly and unannounced on board by receiving the order to perform the test within the certain time limit mentioned on the mail order, the test will be conducted as soon as the mail received by Master. Test will be done to all or the crewmembers mentioned on the mail by Master and Safety Officer. (Including Master and Safety Officer) The results will be shared with the company as soon as the test is completed. On board test will be conducted unscheduled and without certain frequencies, however the test must be done at least once in a month. Master always has authority to perform the on-board alcohol test when ever he /she wants to do.
Post-accident test: (Records Form No: 1103)
Post-accident test is performed after an accident on those who were directly involved.
Details on frequency and procedure for the above tests are presented in the relevant Procedures of the Company SMS.

Drug Regulating Policy

Any use of a prescribed controlled drug which causes or contributes to unacceptable job performance or unusual behaviour should require the seafarer to be excused from duty until such times as he is repatriated, or treatment and its after effects ceased.

Monitoring of supply and distribution of controlled pharmaceuticals
If the result of drug test is positive seafarer to be excused from his/her duty immediately and Master must report his/her name and rank to the DPA and Crew Manager ashore. The seafarer is subject to disciplinary action up to dismissal without compensation.
Any use of a prescribed controlled drug which causes or contributes to unacceptable job performance or unusual behaviour should require the seafarer to be excused from duty until such times as he is repatriated, or treatment and its after effects ceased.
Drug & Alcohol Test Procedure
Unannounced Drug & Alcohol tests are performed by a qualified external contractor following chain procedures, at least once per year (1).
Details on frequency and procedure for the above tests are presented in the relevant Procedures of the Company SMS.Analysis results are forwarded to the vessel by the external contractor. Copy is sent to the Company for evaluation and record keeping.
